Help us provide uniforms for 200 students in Haiti!

OtpnRDo

There are only 3 days left until our fundrasier ends and we need your help! Dresses for Haiti is raising money to provide 200 uniforms for students at 5 schools in Anse-a-Pitre, Haiti. Find out more here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/support-education-and-economic-sustainability-in-haiti

Dresses for Haiti

An example of a few of the dresses that are being donated from all over the US!

While we are providing uniforms we are also hiring tailors so as not to take away jobs from the community; we are also buying fabric and notions for the uniforms in Haiti instead of here in the US. All of these actions seek to support longer term sustainibilty for the community. Not only will students receive a free uniform (along with supplies, a backpack, and dresses for the girls) but we will also be keeping jobs in the community that would have been taken away if we made the uniforms ourselves. All of this is being done in collaboration with the district mayor Ylly Momplaisir and our local partners Groupe Solidarite Haiti-2010. This project is a small attempt to change the discourse surrounding charity and giving, especially in Haiti “the NGO capital of the world” All charities, groups, and foundations have a responsibility to the people they are assisting to ask how their actions may effect the community both positively and negatively. For our project not only are you supporting education for 200 students in the rural town of Anses-a-Pitre, Haiti; you will also be supporting local economic sustainability AND becoming part of a movement that seeks to change the discourse surrounding charity and giving.

So far we have accomplished: Making 200 backpacks in collaboration with SewGreen 2) After moving away from the pillowcase movement we have receieved over 150 beautiful one of kind  handmade dresses from volunteers all over the US 3) We have purchased school supplies for 200 students 4) Raised enough money for 28 uniforms total!

We are making a push to reach our goal and we need your help! We would like to sincerly thank you for your help up to this point. There are only 3 days left for our campaign! Unfortunately if we

cannot reach our goal we will not be able to provide uniforms for all 200 students. Right now we are at $700. If we reach $1500 total we can provide uniforms for all the students. Because we are passionate about this project we will front the rest.

Students to receive uniforms

One of the schools we will be providing uniforms for: Institution La maison des petits de la rele

Within the next few days we ask that you find it in your heart to donate. Any amount helps as low as $1. The combination of multiple donations in a short period of time will push our campaign to the indiegogo home page allowing others to see the project and donate! This is what will help us reach our goal.

If you cannot donate get your friends and family to donate on your behalf and spread the word! Like the campaign page, tweet it, and comment on it to help increase our indiegogo visibility. We cannot do this without you! We are depending on our foundational base of supporters to help us reach our goal

And now all we need is the money to make school uniforms for the children and hire the tailors in Anse-a-Pitres to do so. The production has already begun. Remember the sometimes the smallest contributions have the most profound effects! Thank you! You can donate here: http://www.dressesforhaiti.org/donate.htm
